Production of Basmati Rice

Plowing and flooding are the first steps in preparing the land for rice cultivation. Paddy fields are flat, closed plots that are designed to grow rice in water. Seeds are then selected and planted in a nursery area.

Seeds are germinated and transplanted into the paddy field. Young rice plants are then transplanted into the flooded paddy field. In many rice-growing areas, this process is done by hand. Water management is the second step in rice cultivation. Fields must be kept flooded or moist to encourage the growth of rice plants.

Then it comes to fertilizers and pesticides which help in removing unwanted pests from the crop. When the crop matures, it is time for the crop to be threshed and winnowed. Drying is the next process to remove the moisture content and make the rice suitable for storage. The final step is the milling of the dried rice.

In this process, the outer husks of the rice are removed during the milling process. The resulting product is either fully-milled white rice or partially-milled brown rice.
